In the Czech Republic, Ukrainians will be involved in police work to promote “dialogue with the diaspora”

Active work on the integration of Ukrainian refugees into the life of local communities continues in the Czech Republic. Ukrainians, who became the largest diaspora in the country due to mass migration during the war, are actively involved in educational, cultural and social projects. One of these steps was taken by the authorities of the city of Yihlava, which plans to implement a new approach to interaction with the Ukrainian community.
Ukrainian police assistants
The city authorities of Yihlava announced plans to create positions of Ukrainian assistants in the local police to promote “dialogue with the diaspora”. According to the report Radio Prague International these assistants will assist the police in preventing crime, improving public order and building trust between the police and the Ukrainian community.
The mayor of the city, Petr Ryshka, said that this step was dictated by the need to get closer to the Ukrainian community, which numbers about 7,000 people in a city with a population of 50,000. According to him, this will help solve problems that sometimes arise between the diaspora and local residents.
“Our goal is not only to ensure public order, but also to build a dialogue with the large Ukrainian community in order to strengthen mutual trust.” Ryshka said.
Preparation process and start of work
The Jihlava city government will apply for funding to create these positions. If suitable candidates are found, they will be able to start work as early as next spring.
According to the mayor, potential applicants for these positions do not necessarily have to be long-term residents of the city. The main criteria are knowledge of the language and the desire to contribute to the harmonious coexistence of communities.
Assistants will be able to work directly with the police, ensuring communication between law enforcement officers and Ukrainians, and will also pay attention to compliance with laws and regulations in the city.
Jihlava is one of the many cities in the Czech Republic where Ukrainians make up a significant part of the population. Integrating the diaspora through involvement in local initiatives, such as police assistant positions, is an important step towards solving social problems and creating a harmonious environment for living together.
This initiative can also serve as an example for other European countries that accept Ukrainian refugees, demonstrating an effective approach to the integration of new members of society.
