In the United States, a man was sentenced to 475 years in prison for organizing dog fights

In the United States, a man was sentenced to 475 years in prison for organizing dog fights and cruelty to animals. The convict was 57-year-old Vincent Lemarque Burrell from the state of Georgia, who received the longest known sentence under these articles. About this informs NBC News.

The investigation began in 2022 after an Amazon delivery worker called authorities after noticing the dogs tied up with heavy chains. According to prosecutors, 107 dogs with signs of cruelty, including emaciated and underweight, were kept on the territory.

“The area apparently lacked food, water and shelter – and many dogs were chained in close proximity – a tactic that serves to increase dog aggression.”, the Paulding County District Attorney’s Office said in a statement.

In addition, the man kept some dogs in the basement, not letting them outside, and the premises were contaminated with urine and feces. Evidence was found in Burrell’s apartment that pointed to his involvement in dog fighting.

Among them are a running track for dogs, a stand for breeding them, a special stick used to open the jaws of a dog during a fight, documents related to other famous dog fighters, a first aid kit for injured animals, veterinary drugs and contracts for the sale of dogs. A veterinarian who examined the animals found some had teeth removed and numerous battle scars.
