In the United States, the Gulf of Mexico was officially renamed the American Gulf

The US Department of the Interior pursuant to an executive order by President Donald Trump announced about renaming the Gulf of Mexico to the American Gulf. Also, the highest peak in North America received a new name.

“By executive order, the Gulf of Mexico will now officially be called the Gulf of Mexico, and the highest peak in North America will be named Mount McKinley.

These changes reaffirm the nation’s commitment to preserving the extraordinary heritage of the United States and ensuring that future generations of Americans honor the legacy of their heroes and historic values.” – it is stated in the message of the department.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said that even after Donald Trump’s decree to rename the Gulf of Mexico to the American Gulf, its name will remain unchanged for the whole world. She noted that the US leader can call the bay anything he wants, but only within the limits of the American part.
