In the United States, TikTok was sued due to a threat to the mental health of children

In the US, more than 10 states filed lawsuits against the popular social network TikTok, accusing it of having a negative impact on the mental health of children. About this informs BBC.
A group of 14 state attorneys general says TikTok uses mechanisms that promote addiction. These include sleep-disrupting notifications, videos that disappear and force users to constantly check the platform, and appearance-altering filters and masks.
According to the plaintiffs, long-term use of the social network creates an illusion of safety, while in reality children are addicted, which leads to increased anxiety and depressive states.
New York Attorney General Letitia James cited the example of a 15-year-old boy who died while riding on the roof of a subway car. Later, his mother discovered videos on her phone of similar risque challenges common on TikTok.
Lawsuits were filed in 13 states and the District of Columbia, where the local attorney general also accused the platform of illegal activity related to the transfer of funds through the “virtual currency” feature. In court applications, they demand to change the operation of certain functions of the social network and to impose fines on TikTok.
