In Ukraine, 860 thousand able-bodied IDPs are unemployed: Ministry of Social Policy

In Ukraine, about 860,000 internally displaced persons (IDPs) who are able to work remain unemployed. At the same time, only 63,000 of them turned to employment centers for help. About this reported press service of the Ministry of Social Policy.
“In order for IDPs to be able to get a job, a complex set of actions is needed. The state already implements a number of programs that help with housing, childcare and social support.” – the message says.
Currently, the state implements the following IDP support programs:
- Housing rental subsidy for internally displaced persons, which contributes to the creation of stable conditions for their employment.
- “Municipal nanny” service. Available to immigrants regardless of their place of residence. This is not only a help for parents, but also an opportunity for official employment for nannies who can look after several children at the same time. The state compensates the cost of the service in the amount of one minimum wage.
- Inpatient care and assisted living services for IDPs with disabilities and the elderly, provided on a “money follows the person” principle.
- The “Shelter” program, which helps displaced persons to find temporary housing in other cities and provides monetary compensation to the owners of housing, which host IDPs free of charge.
In general, the number of internally displaced persons in Ukraine continues to grow due to active hostilities, forced evacuations, and enemy attacks. Currently, there are approximately 5 million IDPs.
“Creating sustainable employment for IDPs is not only a matter of economic development, but also an important step towards strengthening social cohesion. It is thanks to the effective cooperation of the state, business, international partners and the public sector that it is possible to create conditions in which everyone can realize their potential.” – emphasized in the ministry.
