Intel to cut more than 33,000 jobs by the end of 2025

The American company Intel announced large-scale layoffs: by the end of 2025, the number of core employees will decrease from 108,900 to approximately 75,000. The information became known after the release of financial results for the second quarter of 2025. About this informs Engadget.
The cuts are part of a larger restructuring plan aimed at cutting operating costs. In 2025, the company plans to reduce them to $17 billion, and in 2026 – to $16 billion. As part of this plan, Intel is also canceling part of infrastructure projects, in particular in Germany and Poland.
In addition, the company is changing production approaches: the assembly and testing center in Costa Rica will be combined with production facilities in Vietnam and Malaysia. In the US, Intel has decided to slow down the construction of a new facility in the state of Ohio.
The company’s CEO Lip-Boo Tan said that these measures are part of a strategy to improve business efficiency. Tan took the helm of Intel in March 2025, succeeding Pat Gelsinger, and announced his intention to streamline the company’s costs and structure.
In addition, Lip-Boo Tan expressed a desire to change the approach to contract manufacturing in order to attract large customers. As part of this transformation, Intel plans to stop selling certain independently developed chip manufacturing technologies to external customers.
