Kallas warned the United States against recognizing Crimea as Russian

The head of diplomacy of the European Union, Kaya Callas, opposed the recognition by the United States of Russian control over the Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea, which was occupied by Russia in 2014. This is what she is about stated in an interview with AFP.
Kallas believes that it would be a mistake for the US to consider the recognition of the occupied Ukrainian region of Crimea as Russian territory as part of any agreement.
“Then Russia will clearly get what it wants”, – emphasized the head of European diplomacy.
She emphasized that the EU, in turn, will never recognize the peninsula annexed by Russia in 2014 as Russian.
“Crimea is Ukraine. For those who are occupied, it is very important that others do not recognize it as Russian.” – Kallas added.
Despite the fact that the European Union does not take an active part in the current peace initiatives led by the USA, in Washington it is recognized that the position of Brussels is decisive because of the large-scale economic sanctions introduced against Russia.
Moscow seeks to achieve the lifting of restrictions within the framework of potential agreements. At the same time, Kaya Kallas warned that any easing of sanctions is possible only after Russia fully fulfills the terms of the future agreement.
“We need to see convincing evidence that Russia is abiding by the agreements before we take any steps.” – she explained.
We will remind that on April 23, a meeting of Ukraine’s allies is to be held in London to discuss American initiatives to end the war.
