For the first time in history, Italy decided to pay compensation to victims of Nazi crimes

Italy has paid compensation to the family of a victim of Nazi war crimes for the first time. 800,000 euros were allocated to the heirs of a man who died during the mass murder of civilians in Tuscany in 1944. About this informs Reuters.
“This is an important first result in the fight to raise awareness of reparations for the heirs of victims of Nazi-fascist crimes”, – emphasized Dario Parrini, a senator from the opposition center-left Democratic Party.
The payout is a landmark event that ends a decade of legal battles and could set a precedent for other families affected by Nazi and fascist crimes. The decision of the Italian government indicates a change in the approach to issues of historical justice.
Metello Riccarini, along with 243 other civilians, was the victim of a bloody massacre in the town of Civitella in the Val di Chiana, located 220 kilometers north of Rome. On June 29, 1944, German troops committed mass murder in response to the death of two Nazis during a firefight with Italian partisans.
“I express my satisfaction on behalf of my mother Metella and my relatives who received money from the Ministry of Economy last week”, – emphasized family lawyer Roberto Alboni.
