Latvia allocates 10 million euros for the purchase of artillery ammunition for Ukraine

At a meeting held on May 14, the Government of Latvia decided to allocate 10 million euros for the purchase of artillery ammunition for Ukraine.
For in words Minister of Defense of Latvia Andris Spruds, the allocated funds will be directed to the purchase of more than 3,000 large-caliber 155-mm artillery shells. These are ammunition that the Ukrainian army urgently needs to fire effectively at enemy positions.
Latvia also plays an active role in the coalition to support Ukraine, which is led by Latvia and Great Britain. This coalition is focused on the procurement and supply of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to Ukraine. Recently, Latvia has already transferred about 100 drones to Ukraine, and in June it is planned to send another 1,000 combat drones of various capacities. In total, the member countries of the coalition allocated more than half a billion euros for the purchase of UAVs for Ukraine.
In addition to immediate military aid, Latvia has also pledged to provide Ukraine with long-term support. This year, Latvia plans to allocate 112 million euros in military aid to Ukraine, which is 0.25% of its GDP. This support will be provided over the next two years.
