Intel plans to make laptops as modular as PCs

Intel is aiming to make laptops more modular like PCs, focusing primarily on original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) rather than end users. About this informs Android Headlines.

The company proposes the introduction of new standards that will allow creating universal motherboards for various laptop models. This solution aims to simplify production processes and reduce costs.

Intel India President Gokul Subramaniam said that the latest generations of the company’s motherboards have become more modular, allowing manufacturers such as Asus or Acer to produce multiple versions of laptops without the need for a complete reconstruction of the devices.

For example, Intel could create a single board for all 16-inch models with two fans and a separate one for the 14-inch models with one fan. This allows manufacturers to simply fit boards into chassis with different component configurations.

In addition, the company offers to structure the boards into smaller modules, which will provide greater flexibility when customizing orders. Intel hopes the new approach will become an accepted industry standard, speed up the development of new components and allow users to upgrade individual parts of laptops without having to replace the entire device.

This approach could be the answer to the financial challenges associated with the growing popularity of ARM processors. Time will tell if this will help Intel turn things around.
