Law enforcement officers detained a man who defrauded the family of a deceased soldier of 1.2 million hryvnias (video)
In Poltava, law enforcement officers detained a man suspected of fraud involving UAH 1.2 million related to the family of a fallen serviceman. About this reported press service of the National Police.
The detainee is the founder of several public organizations in the Poltava region and, according to the investigation, has a family connection with an official of the Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support in Zaporizhzhia.
According to the law enforcement officers, the man demanded a “reward” from the family members of the deceased soldier for assistance in issuing financial assistance. On July 8, the Zaporizhia specialized prosecutor’s office in the field of defense of the Eastern region, together with the police, detained him while receiving part of the funds in the amount of UAH 50,000.
In the course of the investigation, it was established that the man used his family ties with a representative of one of the TCC and SP of the Zaporizhzhia Region to obtain illegal benefits. In 2024, he began to demand money from the relatives of the fallen soldier for “assistance” in submitting documents, as well as further processing and receiving one-time benefits as family members of the deceased. For his “services”, he asked for half of the future payments to the family.
During six months, he illegally took about 1.2 million hryvnias from the funds allocated to the family of the deceased. After the initial receipt of funds, the man forced the woman to regularly transfer to him 50% of the monthly payments – UAH 75,000 each. The police also said that the suspect’s wife, who is an official of one of the RTCC and SP Zaporizhzhia, was involved in the criminal scheme.
Currently, the issue of notifying the detainee of suspicion under the article on abuse of influence is being resolved. The collection of evidence to bring his wife to justice continues. Disclosure measures were carried out in cooperation with the employees of the Department of Military Counterintelligence of the SBU under the procedural guidance of the Zaporizhia Specialized Prosecutor’s Office in the field of defense of the Eastern region.
