Lithuanian Prime Minister Gintautas Paluckas resigns

On July 31, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda announced that Prime Minister Gintautas Paluckas had announced his resignation. About this informs LRT.
The day before, there were reports in Lithuania that the Financial Crimes Investigation Service conducted a search of the company Dankora, which is owned by the wife of the head of government’s brother. According to the media, this company received funding from the European Union and purchased battery systems from Palutskas’ own company, Garnis.
“Today’s news is that Paluckas called this morning to announce his resignation”Nauseda said.
The President of Lithuania noted that the general situation has not undergone fundamental changes, and now the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party, which won the parliamentary elections and has a majority in the Seimas, will begin consultations on the creation of a potential coalition.
“I gave him time to think things over as a human being and evaluate all the circumstances. I think he made the right decision and took this opportunity. I applaud his decision.” Nauseda stressed, stressing that the Prime Minister’s decision was not late.
According to the president, the country now needs a stable and effective coalition, and the head of government must be able to confidently lead the government and the coalition forward. Nauseda also criticized the publication of the names of possible prime ministerial candidates in the media even before the incumbent prime minister had officially resigned.
“I think it was simply unethical to release the names of potential prime ministers before the actual decision. Today, the fact is the fact – it’s time to start talking about it. There is more than one candidate who can really fulfill the duties of prime minister.” he added.
It will be recalled that the scandals surrounding Palutskas began to unfold after journalistic investigations about his dubious business connections. The General Prosecutor’s Office of Lithuania handed over these materials to the Special Investigation Service for verification. Against the background of the situation, the level of trust in Palutskas and the government headed by him has significantly decreased. President Nauseda gave the prime minister two weeks to explain the charges.
