Macron approved a new composition of the French government, which included two former prime ministers

French President Emmanuel Macron signed a decree that officially approved the new composition of the country’s government. Relevant information appeared on the official website of the Elysee Palace.

The decree provides for the appointment of ministers proposed by Prime Minister François Bayrou. The official announcement of the composition of the government took place in the courtyard of the Elysee Palace.

Among the key appointments, the new government kept several high-ranking officials in their previous positions. Sébastien Lecornu remained as Minister of Defense, while Jean-Noël Barrot continued to hold the position of Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs. Gerald Darmanen, former Minister of the Interior, was appointed as Minister of Justice.

In addition, two former prime ministers returned to the government. Elizabeth Bourne, who led the government from 2022 to 2024, has now become Minister for Higher Education and Research. Manuel Valls, who led the government in 2014-2016, was appointed Minister of the Overseas Territories of France.

Prime Minister Francois Bayrou expressed satisfaction with the new team, calling it “an experienced team capable of uniting society and regaining the trust of the French people”.

It will be recalled that last year the government of France was headed by an openly homosexual for the first time in history. In addition, he also became the youngest politician of this level. 34-year-old Gabriel Attal replaced Elizabeth Bourne at the time. Before his appointment, he held the position of Minister of Education.
