Britain has detained a dangerous terrorist who has been hiding for more than two decades

One of the FBI’s most wanted terrorists, Daniel Andreas San Diego, has been captured in Wales after more than 20 years on the run. A 46-year-old man accused of two bombings in the San Francisco area in 2003 was found in a remote rural area near a forest in Conway County. The arrest was made possible thanks to the cooperation of the FBI and the UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA), informs Sky News.

San Diego is accused of organizing two bombings in California. In August 2003, two explosive devices detonated on the premises of a biotechnology company in Emeryville, one hour apart, and in September of the same year, an improvised nail bomb exploded on the premises of a food company in Pleasanton. Although injuries were avoided, the FBI said the first explosion was designed to harm the rescuers.

In October 2003, San Diego disappeared, having managed to evade the surveillance of agents near a transportation station in San Francisco. In 2009, he was included in the list of most wanted terrorists, and he became the first suspect of domestic terrorism on this list.

NCA officials confirmed the arrest, which was the result of a years-long manhunt. San Diego appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 26 November 2024, where extradition to the US to face the charges began.

“Daniel San Diego’s arrest after more than 20 years shows that no matter how long it takes, the FBI will find you and bring you to justice. In our country, there is a right and a wrong way to express your views, and resorting to violence and destruction of property is definitely the wrong way,” – FBI Director Christopher Ray commented on the arrest.
