Macron called on Europe to get rid of “vassal dependence on the United States”

French President Emmanuel Macron called on Europeans to be “more united and stronger than ever” and to abandon “vassal dependence on the US”. This statement was made during the two-day state visit of the French president to Portugal, informs BFMTV.
According to Macron, Europe must “rediscover a taste for risk, ambition and power” amid the unpredictability of the United States under the presidency of Donald Trump. It should become more independent both in supporting Ukraine and in matters of customs policy. He added that “the answer is not in submission” and “not in happy vassal dependence.”
“I see many people in our Europe saying: ‘We will have to be nice to the Americans, this will pass, we will have to bend our backs’. Europeans can be convinced of one thing: they need to be united and strong more than ever, and for that we must make very deep choices in technological, industrial and defense issues,” – Macron said.
The Elysee Palace noted that the official trip to Portugal, the first in more than a quarter of a century, made by the head of the French state, is intended to “mark the depth and density of ties” between the two countries.
