Meloni did not support the idea of sending European troops to Ukraine

The Prime Minister of Italy, Giorgia Maloni, spoke out against the sending of European troops to Ukraine, considering this step to be ineffective. She called such an initiative “complicated, risky and ineffective”. informs SkyNews.

“The sending of Italian troops to Ukraine is an issue that has never been on the agenda, just as we believe that the sending of European troops, first proposed by Britain and France, is a very difficult, risky and ineffective option.” – said Maloney.

According to her, Italy remains committed to supporting the Ukrainian people and condemning Russian aggression. Instead of sending troops, it proposes to provide Ukraine with security guarantees similar to NATO’s fifth article, which provides for a collective response to an attack.

Earlier, the Prime Minister stated that Italy will not participate in a possible mission to send peacekeepers to Ukraine, if such a decision is made by other European countries. She also noted that Italy is actively promoting the idea of providing Ukraine with security guarantees without formal accession to NATO.
