The leader of the German CDU party and future chancellor Friedrich Merz suggested that the scandal in the White House during the visit of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi was deliberately provoked by the American side. About this informs Tegesschau.de.
Mertz noted that he watched the footage of Zelenskyi’s meeting with Trump in the Oval Office several times.
“In my opinion, at this meeting in the Oval Office, there was no spontaneous reaction to Zelensky’s statements, but, obviously, a calculated escalation took place. Usually such meetings with the press last only a few minutes. On Friday, everything was different.” Mertz emphasized.
He noted that he was quite surprised, including by the mutual tone of the dialogue. On the other hand, such rhetoric fits into the general line of behavior of the new US administration in recent months.
“What we have seen in Washington now is a certain continuity in a series of events of the last few weeks, including the appearance of the American delegation in Munich for a security conference,” – concluded Mertz.
