Two steps need to be taken: Blinken believes that the UN Security Council can establish peace in Ukraine

The UN Security Council can play an important role in stopping the Russian invasion of Ukraine if it takes two key steps. This was stated by US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, transmits “Voice of America”.
The first step is to stop the support of Russia from the countries that violate international norms. According to Blinken, it is the help from such countries as Iran and North Korea that allows Vladimir Putin to continue the aggression, which causes the death of peaceful Ukrainians. He reminded that Iran supplies Russia with ballistic missiles, and North Korea sends trains with weapons and ammunition.
Such actions are contrary to numerous Security Council resolutions, but the body did not react properly. Moreover, Russia blocked the activities of a group of UN experts monitoring North Korea’s nuclear and ballistic programs.
“Russia is the aggressor. Ukraine is the victim. Russia is fighting for conquest. Ukraine is fighting for survival. If countries stop supporting Russia, Putin’s invasion will soon be over. If countries stop supporting Ukraine, Ukraine may cease to exist.”, he said.
The second step is to find a peaceful solution to the conflict in accordance with the basic principles of the UN. Blinken stressed that the Security Council should fulfill its functions, protecting the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of states. According to him, any peace plans that ignore the provisions of the UN Charter will only strengthen the aggressor, allowing Putin to rearm and launch a new invasion of Ukraine.
