More than $19 billion is needed to restore Ukraine’s healthcare system

Over three years of full-scale war, Russian attacks have caused losses to Ukraine’s healthcare system of $19.4 billion. About this reported The Ministry of Health, referring to the report “Fourth Ukraine Rapid Damage and Needs Assessment”.
Compared to the previous estimate released in February 2024, total medical losses increased by 9%. The need for restoration and reconstruction for the next decade has also increased by 14%. The number of damaged medical facilities increased by 36.7%, and pharmacies – by 2.2%.
“This figure is intermediate. However, it is clear that the health care system needs significant investments and their rational use. In order to ensure maximum efficiency, strategic guidelines have been defined.
So, this year the Strategy for the development of the health care system until 2030 was approved. We have two key vectors: to ensure the stability of the system in the conditions of war and at the same time to focus on recovery, combining it with reform processes and increasing the efficiency of functioning in accordance with the principle “better than it was”, – noted Minister of Health Viktor Lyashko.
