More than 30 people were hospitalized after yesterday’s clashes at rallies in Georgia

On the night of December 2, 37 people were hospitalized during the protests in Georgia informs “Echo of the Caucasus” edition. Speaking at the government meeting, the Prime Minister of the country thanked the Minister of Internal Affairs and the law enforcement officers for their actions and declared that the “National Maidan” will not take place in Georgia.
According to the Ministry of Health, 12 of the injured are police officers. It is noted that the injuries of law enforcement officers are more serious than those of protesters.
At least 224 people were detained at the anti-government protests that began on November 28 in response to the government’s decision to abandon European integration. The police used force for several days to disperse the demonstrations. Among those detained was the leader of the “Girchi – more freedom” party, who was released only in the morning of December 2.
Prime Minister Irakliy Kobakhidze also held a meeting with employees of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. At the same time, a protest took place near the building, caused by the ruling party’s decision to end negotiations with the European Union on accession until 2028.
According to the human rights organization “Young Lawyers of Georgia”, law enforcement officers used tear gas against people who were in closed rooms, and water jets contained chemical substances that caused burns. Such actions raise concerns about human rights and the legality of the use of force in dispersing demonstrations.
