More than a thousand medical institutions in Ukraine provide mental health services

In Ukraine, mental health services are becoming more and more accessible — more than 1,000 medical institutions provide such services throughout the country. About this reported The Ministry of Health of Ukraine on its official Facebook page.

According to the report, more than 1,000 primary health care facilities have signed contracts with the National Health Service of Ukraine (NHSHU) to provide support and treatment of mental disorders for both adults and children. This allows patients to receive free mental health care directly from their family doctor or pediatrician.

The Ministry of Health emphasized that due to the challenges of the war, the number of primary health workers capable of providing mental health services has been significantly increased. As of October 2024, 20,361 primary care physicians have been trained in the mhGAP program, which was developed by WHO to improve access to mental health services. In total, more than 103,944 Ukrainians, including doctors and medical workers of various levels, completed the first level of this training.

In addition, the mhGAP program will be integrated into the curricula of medical schools, so that future doctors of various specialties can acquire mental health knowledge during their studies.

The main partners of Ukraine in the development of the mental health support system are the World Health Organization (WHO), the Coordination Center for Mental Health under the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, as well as the All-Ukrainian mental health program “How are you?”, initiated by the first Lady Olena Zelenska.

The Ministry of Health also reports that on their official website you can find contacts of psychological support services for various categories of the population, including civilians, veterans, children, adolescents, internally displaced persons and those affected by war.
