NATO comments on military cooperation between Russia and North Korea

The North Atlantic Council has issued a statement in which it categorically condemned the actions of the Russian and North Korean leaderships aimed at dangerously intensifying the aggressive war against Ukraine. This was reported on the official NATO website.
The statement notes that the DPRK is already providing significant support to Russia by supplying millions of rounds of ammunition and ballistic missiles. The involvement of thousands of North Korean combat troops, as noted, indicates a serious expansion of assistance. NATO warns that this cooperation poses a serious threat to Euro-Atlantic security and could have implications for stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
The organisation also stresses that the expansion of military ties between Russia and the DPRK is a serious violation of a number of UN Security Council resolutions, including 2270 (2016), 1718 (2006) and 1874 (2009). It is also outrageous that Russia, as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, is violating its own international obligations. NATO calls on Russia to return to compliance with these resolutions.
In addition, it condemns Russia’s statement of 26 September, which stated that the denuclearisation of the DPRK was ‘not under discussion’. In NATO’s view, this position is unacceptable, as it undermines the global nuclear non-proliferation system, contradicts UN Security Council resolutions and increases regional tensions.
