NATO Secretary General says Ukraine does not have a strong enough position to negotiate with Russia

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said that Ukraine currently does not have a strong enough position to start negotiations with Russia on ending the war. He also stressed that any agreement should prevent Russia from achieving its goals. About this informs The Hill.
“I think it’s very important that we make a good deal, because the whole world will be watching to see what kind of deal Russia and Ukraine will make when it’s their turn.” Rutte said.
The NATO Secretary General also drew attention to Chinese President Xi Jinping, who, he said, will be closely watching whoever gets the upper hand in the negotiations.
“He [Xi Jinping] will be very interested in who comes out the winner. And if it’s the Russians, then that will be a threat in the long term, so we have to make sure that Ukraine is in a position where they can start these negotiations, and , obviously, then we have to take it step by step to make sure that Putin joins them.”, – Rutte explained.
The official emphasized the importance of strengthening support for Ukraine, noting that to change the course of the war, it is necessary to focus on ensuring air defense and implementing the agreements reached at the NATO summit in Washington.
