NATO should choose the Ukrainian path to peace, not the Sino-Brazilian one: Stoltenberg

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg called on the member states of the Alliance to support the peace plan proposed by Ukraine, instead of the initiatives put forward by China and Brazil. In his interview he emphasized to Politico that the Ukrainian plan is more reliable and capable of ensuring long-term peace.
Stoltenberg stressed that it is Ukraine that should have the decisive say in determining acceptable conditions, because it is a victim of Russian aggression. The NATO Secretary General emphasized that supporting the Ukrainian initiative should remain a priority for the Alliance, rather than seeking compromises within the Sino-Brazilian initiative.
These statements were made in the context of the discussion of Turkey’s role in the “Friends of Peace” initiative launched by China and Brazil. It is aimed at settling the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, but Stoltenberg believes that NATO should focus on supporting Ukrainian peacekeeping efforts.
The NATO Secretary General, who is leaving his post on October 1, will hand over leadership of the Alliance to former Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte. After his term ends, Stoltenberg will chair the Munich Security Conference.
We will remind that on September 27, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi announced the creation of the “Friends of Peace” platform, which is being developed together with Brazil and other countries of the Global South. The initiative envisages finding a peaceful solution to the conflict without confrontation or competition, positioning itself as a neutral platform for dialogue.
