NEURC extended the current price caps on the electricity market for another 6 months

The National Commission for State Regulation of Energy and Utilities (NKREKP) decided to extend price caps on the electricity market for another 6 months, keeping them at the current level. The new resolution on determining the maximum prices will enter into force on May 31. About this informs ExPro.
“We continue the price caps that were established before, but for the next period, for six months,” – commented on the decision of the head of the NCRECP Yuriy Vlasenko.
At the same time, he offered the Department of the Energy Market to start revising the current price caps in the near future in order to be able to quickly respond to changes in the country’s situation, in particular those related to the war.
As a reminder, according to Resolution No. 1976 of November 25, 2024, the limit prices on the day-ahead market and the intraday market are:
- from 00:00 to 7:00 and from 11:00 to 17:00 – 5,600 UAH/MWh,
- from 7:00 to 11:00 and from 23:00 to 24:00 – 6900 UAH/MWh,
- from 17:00 to 23:00 – 9,000 UAH/MWh.
The minimum marginal price for these markets is UAH 10/MWh.
Regarding the balancing market, the maximum price caps are:
- from 00:00 to 7:00 – 6,600 UAH/MWh,
- from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and from 11:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. – UAH 8,250/MWh,
- from 17:00 to 23:00 – UAH 10,000/MWh.
The minimum marginal price here is UAH 0.01/MWh.
It will be recalled that in March, at a meeting of the energy committee of the Verkhovna Rada, a member of the supervisory board of NEC “Ukrenergo” Yuriy Boyko stated that it is advisable to revise the price caps for the summer period, in particular, to allow the introduction of negative prices during the hours of surplus and to significantly increase the limit values in the evening period. This, in his opinion, will create the right price signals in conditions of significant market imbalance.
