Openai launches purchases via chatGPT

OpenAI is launching a new feature that will allow users to search for products through ChatGPT and proceed to purchase on sellers’ sites. The innovation will be available to all users, even without mandatory account authorization. About this informs Wired.

At the request of the user, the chatbot will provide several options for products from different marketplaces, focusing on the preferences and feedback of buyers. ChatGPT does not apply traditional algorithms like Google that search for products by keywords and SEO.

Instead, the model analyzes what real people are saying about the products, what advantages and disadvantages they note in their reviews, and based on this, it forms personalized recommendations. Users will also be able to choose which sources—media reviews or reviews from other users—will be prioritized for analysis.

This is not the company’s first experience in online shopping. Previously, OpenAI launched the Operator agent, which can interact with the browser on behalf of the user. Operator works on the basis of the Computer-Using Agent model, which combines the capabilities of GPT-4o with the analysis of visual information and advanced logical skills.

The operator “sees” interfaces with the help of screenshots, presses buttons, enters text and can independently correct errors. If the task is too complex, the agent hands over control to the user.
