Orban called on the EU to lift the ban on oil and gas from Russia due to the war in Iran

The European Union should abandon the ban on Russian energy carriers due to the instability of the oil market in the Middle East due to the war in Iran. About this stated Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orban.
“This is a serious threat. That’s why we have to cancel the rules and bans on Russian energy carriers in Brussels. We already have enough problems, given the negative impact of the war between Iran and Israel.” Orban emphasized.
At the same time, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Hungary, Peter Szijarto, held telephone conversations with the heads of foreign affairs of Israel, Russia, Bahrain and Jordan, discussing the escalation of the situation in the Middle East. The agency notes that the increase in oil prices seen after Israel’s attacks on Iran could exacerbate inflationary pressures in import-dependent Central European countries.
It will be recalled that on June 17, the High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaya Callas, confirmed the intention of the European Union to completely abandon Russian gas by 2027.
“Europe has already drastically reduced its dependence. Now we are turning off the faucet for good. Russia will no longer be able to use energy as a weapon against us.” – emphasized Kallas.
Before the start of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022, the Russian Federation was the main supplier of gas to the EU — more than 40% of imports. After the invasion, Europe accelerated the rejection of Russian energy carriers, and already in 2023 the share of Russian gas in EU imports has decreased to approximately 8%.
