People’s Deputy and former journalist Serhiy Shvets passed away

After a long struggle with a serious illness, People’s Deputy of Ukraine of the IX convocation and former journalist Serhiy Shvets passed away. About this reported head of the “Servant of the People” faction in the Verkhovna Rada, David Arakhamiya.
“Serhii Shvets made his professional path with dignity — from journalism to work in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. We will remember him as an honest, decent, principled person. Eternal memory.” – says the message.
Serhiy Shvets was born on June 13, 1976 in Cherkasy. He graduated from the local secondary school No. 28, and received his higher education at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the National University “Kyiv-Mohyla Academy”. He also studied at the Faculty of International Economic Relations of Vadym Hetman Kyiv National University of Economics.
He began his journalistic career at the age of 19 in the “Window” program. In 1997, he became the author and presenter of the column in the TV projects “Bomb” and “Breakfast with 1+1”. From 1998 to 2000, he worked as a special correspondent in “Windows” on STB, and from 2000 to 2004 – in the programs “Day Seven”, “Freedom of Speech” and “Facts” on ICTV. In 2004–2009, he hosted “TSN-Varta”, “Breakfast with 1+1” and was a correspondent of the “TSN” news block.
In 2019, Shvets was elected as a People’s Deputy of the IX convocation as a non-partisan candidate from the Servant of the People party. In the Verkhovna Rada, he held the position of secretary of the Committee on Freedom of Speech and headed the subcommittee on protecting the rights and freedoms of journalists and media workers.
