People’s Deputy Andriy Odarchenko was sentenced to 8 years in prison with confiscation of property

On November 14, the Supreme Anti-Corruption Court of Ukraine (SAC) found MP Andriy Odarchenko guilty of attempted bribery and sentenced him to 8 years in prison with confiscation of all property. About this reported in the Anti-Corruption Center.

The court’s decision stated that Odarchenko was convicted under part four of Article 369 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. In addition to the main punishment, he is prohibited for three years from holding positions in state authorities, local self-government and budget institutions, as well as holding administrative positions in enterprises where the share of the state or community exceeds 50%.

The case against Odarchenko was opened in connection with the accusation of attempted bribery of the ex-head of the State Agency for Reconstruction and Development of Infrastructure, Mustafa Nayem. The investigation claims that the deputy offered a bribe of 50,000 dollars for assistance in allocating funding for the renovation of the university, which was under his control. Earlier, Odarchenko was released on bail in the amount of 15 million hryvnias, handed over his foreign passports and undertook not to leave Ukraine without the permission of the court. However, in September he did not appear at the court session and was absent from the Verkhovna Rada. Prosecutors assume that the deputy could go abroad through the Zakarpattia region, having connections with the former head of the Zakarpattia Regional State Administration Viktor Mykyta, who, however, denied his involvement in this.

On September 19, the court granted the request of the prosecutor’s office and declared Odarchenko on the national and international wanted list. The verdict can be appealed within 30 days from the moment of its announcement. In the case of an appeal, the sentence will enter into force after the decision of the appeal court, or automatically after the expiry of the appeal period, if no appeal is filed.
