Poland announced Russian interference in presidential elections

Poland’s Minister of Digital Affairs Krzysztof Hawkowski warned of unprecedented attempts by Russia to interfere in the presidential election, calling it the most serious threat of this nature in the country’s history. About this informs Reuters.

Polish authorities emphasize that due to Poland’s role as a key logistical support hub for Ukraine, the country has become a prime target for Russian cyberattacks and disinformation campaigns.

“During the current presidential elections in Poland, we are dealing with an unprecedented attempt to interfere in the election process by Russia,” – said Havkovsky, speaking at a conference on defense topics.

According to him, these attempts are implemented “by spreading disinformation in combination with hybrid attacks on the critical infrastructure of Poland with the aim of paralyzing the normal functioning of the state.” The minister clarified that the targets of the attacks were water utilities, thermal power plants, energy facilities and state administration institutions. He drew attention to the fact that the level of cyber threats from Russia has doubled compared to last year.

“Today, more than a dozen incidents against critical infrastructure are registered in Poland every minute of my speech,” Havkovskyi added.

The Polish government has previously said it is actively working to strengthen cyber security and hold talks with social platforms in preparation for a possible increase in cyber activity ahead of the election.

We will remind that on April 2, the Prime Minister of Poland Donald Tusk publicly admitted that his political force “Civic Platform” became the object of a cyber attack, which, according to him, was of foreign origin.
