Poland will pay special attention to Ukraine during its presidency: President of the European Council

During the opening ceremony of the Polish presidency of the EU Council, the head of the European Council, Antonio Kosta, emphasized that in 2025, supporting Ukraine should remain one of the main priorities. About this it is said in the test of the published statement.
“This year, we must continue to support Ukraine – as much as is necessary to achieve a comprehensive, just and lasting peace. International law must prevail for the sake of the freedom of the Ukrainian people and our common security.” Koshta emphasized.
The head of the European Council emphasized the main challenges facing the EU and emphasized the importance of unity and strategic partnership.
“In 2025, when we celebrate the 45th anniversary of the founding of Solidarity, we must remember that the European Union is, above all, a union of countries, peoples and values.” Koshta emphasized.
Antonio Costa also emphasized the importance of the EU’s strategic autonomy in the defense sphere:
“We must continue to see defense as a strategic priority for the European Union. By becoming stronger, more efficient, more durable and, yes, more autonomous. Together, investing more and better, creatively and pragmatically looking for new solutions. We are always working on a strong transatlantic partnership and cooperation with NATO.”
The head of the European Council announced an initiative to hold an informal meeting of European leaders in early February, the main topic of which will be defense issues. The Secretary General of NATO and the Prime Minister of Great Britain are invited to participate.
