Polish court bans protesters from blocking border with Ukraine

The district court in Lublin, Poland, issued a decision banning the transporters’ protest action, which involved the blocking of the “Yagodin-Dorogusk” checkpoint on the border with Ukraine. About this reported edition of RMF24.
The material recalls the course of events: at first, the mayor of Dorohusk forbade the action. The district court in Lublin later allowed the rally, but this decision was appealed and the case was referred to the Court of Appeal. At a closed session, the court reviewed the previous decision.
Court spokeswoman Magdalena Kuchynska reported that the court upheld the appeal and confirmed Mayor Dorohusk’s May 8 decision to ban the action. She noted that the court fully agreed with the arguments given in the decision of the local authorities. This decision is final and not subject to further appeal, so the organizers must stop the protest.
The organizer of the action, Rafal Mekler, said that at that time he had not yet received any official notifications about the ban:
“We are waiting for official information. If we receive it, we will, of course, obey the court’s decision, because we are acting within the framework of the law.”Meckler emphasized.
The mayor of Dorohuska argued for the ban, in particular, that the protest was planned to be held for four months — from May 12 to September 12, 2025.
“Such actions cannot be considered as those that are subject to legislative protection of the collective expression of a common position on issues of public interest, but as an intention to block any cross-border contacts between Ukraine and Poland, and in a broader sense, the common market, that is, the countries of the European Union.” – he emphasized.
