Russia is closing the sky over the training ground from where it fired the ‘Oreshnik’.

Russia is closing the airspace over the Kapustin Yar missile range, which may indicate preparations for Oreshnik ballistic missile launches. About this informs US Federal Aviation Administration.

According to the notice, the ban on flights will be in effect on May 12 and 13 from 06:00 to 16:00 local time. The restrictions extend from ground level to an unlimited height—a similar format usually indicates preparation for missile tests or launches. All aircraft are required to avoid flying in this airspace during the specified time.

This is not the first time that the closure of the sky over the test site coincides with the increased activity of the Russian military. Similar notifications were also recorded in December: from December 11 to 13 and from December 16 to 21. In particular, on December 13, Russia carried out a massive missile attack on the territory of Ukraine, using various types of missiles – from ballistic to cruise and hypersonic.

One of these missiles is the “Oreshnik” medium-range ballistic missile, which belongs to the “surface-to-surface” type. According to available data, it is capable of carrying both nuclear and conventional warheads. According to the Ukrainian military, Oreshnik has a speed of more than 3.5 km/s and carries six warheads, each of which is equipped with submunitions. Such a design significantly complicates its interception even in the presence of modern anti-missile defense systems.
