Polish special services neutralized a cyber group from Russia and Belarus: Deputy Prime Minister

A group of cyber saboteurs from Belarus and Russia was exposed in Poland, who were engaged in information gathering and blackmail. This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digitalization of Poland Krzysztof Hawkowski, informs edition of Rzeczpospolita.
According to Havkovskyi, the operation to identify the saboteurs took place “in the last few days”. He emphasized that these cybercriminals were operating on the territory of Poland, having specific goals and being based in a certain place.
The goal of the cyber attacks was to create political, military and economic chaos in the country. Polish institutions received a timely warning from the special services, which made it possible to prevent the theft of important information and avoid serious consequences.
According to the minister, in the first half of 2024 alone, more than 400,000 cases of cyber security violations were recorded in Poland, and about 100,000 measures were taken to respond to these incidents.
Gavkovskyi also emphasized that the goal of cybercriminals was blackmail not only to obtain financial benefits, but also to force cooperation with foreign intelligence services. Blackmail was carried out through threats to reveal personal data.
Reuters previously reported that hackers linked to Russian intelligence are using phishing attacks to target critics of the Kremlin regime around the world. This data was obtained as a result of research by the organizations Citizen Lab and Access Now, which are engaged in the protection of digital rights.
