Ukraine today is fighting not only for its own survival, but also for European values, so it is important to continue to strengthen support and strive for a just peace based on the principles of the UN Charter. This was stated by the President of the European Council Charles Michel during a conversation with journalists before the summit of the European Political Community, which took place in Budapest on Thursday, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
‘We are on your side, dear people of Ukraine, because we understand very well, and we have not changed our minds, that you are fighting for our common values and principles. And so every meeting of the European Council has been an occasion to strengthen our support for Ukraine. It is important not to give up, because strengthening Ukraine means strengthening ourselves,’ Michel said.
He stressed the need to achieve a just peace in Ukraine, which should be based on the fundamental principles of the UN Charter.
‘If it is not Ukraine that wins in the end, it will mean that we will all be more vulnerable, because it means that the UN Charter will not be so strong,’ the President of the European Council concluded.
