Rada introduces compulsory insurance for journalists in combat zones

The Verkhovna Rada passed a law obliging mass media to insure journalists during their work in war zones. About this stated co-chair of the “European Solidarity” faction Iryna Gerashchenko in her Telegram channel.
According to her report, the parliament generally supported the amendments to the Law “On State Support of the Media, Guarantees of Professional Activity and Social Protection of Journalists”, which were introduced to bring this legislation into line with the Law of Ukraine “On Insurance” (draft law No. 11153). 275 deputies voted for the adoption of the changes.
The new provisions of the law provide that media entities, in particular mass media, are obliged to provide life, health and work capacity insurance for journalists and media workers during their deployment to war zones at their own expense or other legal sources or to temporarily occupied territories. Insurance provides protection against accidents during the performance of professional duties.
The procedure and conditions of this insurance will be established by the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine in agreement with the National Bank of Ukraine.
The law enters into force one month after its official publication.
Earlier, the Verkhovna Rada also adopted in the second reading another important bill No. 11416d concerning changes in taxation.
