Refugees will have the status of temporary protection in Poland until October 2025

Ukrainians who arrived in Poland fleeing the war had the right to temporary protection in Poland until June 30, 2024. Now the refugees’ stay in the neighboring country has been extended until the end of September 2025. The corresponding amendment to the law was approved by the head of state Andrzej Duda.
Continuation of protection means that Ukrainians will not only be able to legally live in Poland and move freely around the country, but will also continue to have the right to receive social benefits and free medical services.
What other innovations await refugees?
In addition to the extension of the period of stay in Poland, the changes in the legislation contain several more positive news for Ukrainians. In particular, our fellow citizens will now be able to use the Dobry Start program. These are financial payments that parents receive for the preparation of their children – pupils or students – for the academic year. Assistance can be received once a year, its amount is 300 zlotys (about 3,000 hryvnias).
In addition, schoolchildren from Ukraine will be able to continue attending Polish language courses for free.
Changes to the conditions for receiving PESEL
Now it is necessary to submit documents for obtaining a PESEL UKR certificate not within 30 days, but immediately after arriving in Poland. PESEL will be issued only in the presence of valid travel documents (passport).
Ukrainians who received a PESEL UKR on the basis of other documents must confirm their identity within 60 days at the local authorities of the settlements where they arrived.
