Ukrainian refugees

Relatives of MP Dunda, who said that refugees who have been living abroad for a long time are “politically no longer Ukrainians”, are actively doing business abroad

The problem of the return of Ukrainian refugees who left the country after the start of a full-scale war is increasingly becoming a subject of active discussion among representatives of the authorities and in Ukrainian society. The absence of millions of citizens for a long period creates serious demographic and economic challenges for the country. The government is developing support programs and economic strategies aimed at bringing Ukrainians back home and facilitating their integration into a peaceful life.

However, against this background, it caused a significant response statement People’s Deputy from the Servant of the People party Oleg Dunda, which became the subject of lively discussions in social networks. During the broadcast on the YouTube project “Superposition”, Dunda expressed his position regarding Ukrainians who still remain abroad.

“I will tell you: the one who left… I understand everything – some were scared, some decided to stay. But if you have not returned to Ukraine in three years, you are no longer politically Ukrainian. From my point of view, ethically – not legally – you have lost the opportunity to call yourself a Ukrainian. Duty is always a right. And you can’t: this is what I want, I take, according to the Constitution, and this is what I don’t want and don’t take according to the Constitution. That’s not possible. You are ethically no longer Ukrainian. And if you haven’t returned in three years, it doesn’t matter to us, as to Ukraine, what you will do there.” said the people’s deputy.

These words caused a sharp reaction, because many Ukrainians found themselves outside the country due to objective circumstances – loss of housing, threat to life or the need to ensure the safety of their families. However, according to the deputy, a long-term absence from Ukraine deprives people of the moral right to consider themselves part of Ukrainian political society.

Against this background, the fact that Dunda’s relatives are actively developing their own business abroad looks interesting. This became known from the investigation of the detective bureau Absolution. As it turned out, Oleg Dunda lives in Kyiv with Olena Krol at the address of st. IN. Tyutyunnyka, 40, sq. 27. This apartment used to belong to Semen Krol, a well-known transport official in the past.

Krol was the deputy head of the Dnipropetrovsk regional state administration for transport in the 2000s. A native of Luhansk, he started his work in 1972 at a locomotive factory. Later, he retrained in the construction field, where he was engaged in the construction of greenhouses. In 1986, Krol moved into the transport industry, working at the Luhansk Motor Vehicle Enterprise. His career gradually led him to the positions of vice mayor of Luhansk, and later to Kyiv, where he held senior positions in the Ministry of Transport and Communications.

Krol is known for his support of initiatives for the purchase of large buses for public transport. His ideas often contradicted the real needs of cities and led to significant financial losses. In Luhansk, such a policy resulted in the bankruptcy of a local car company in 2005, and in Kyiv – conflicts with local authorities. While working at Ukrinteravtoservice, Krol was involved in the distribution of permits for international transportation, which often became a field for abuse. Despite the scandals, he maintained his influence in the transport sector for a long time, becoming a symbol of the “old guard” of the Kuchma era.

In 2015, Krol tried to get into the Verkhovna Rada from the “Renaissance” party, but was unsuccessful. It is known that his son-in-law, Oleg Dunda, got into the parliament only a few years later. Krol himself has been abroad for a long time, although his influence in Ukraine continued to be noticeable.

The Absolution detective bureau also found out that Dunda’s former brother-in-law, the husband of Iryna Krol’s sister, moved abroad a long time ago and founded his own business in Vienna. It was he who co-founded the restaurant “Odessa” in partnership with the Batoni Group. Thus, some of Dunda’s relatives are actively developing their own business in Europe.

“Mr. Oleg Dunda, disrespected people’s deputy from “Servant of the People”, why such gentle rhetoric towards Mr. Viktor Orban? Maybe because he is your prime minister?

How did you get Hungarian citizenship in 2018?

Does the SBU know about this?

How can you even be a deputy of the Verkhovna Rada?

are you a spy

By the way, when will there be an apology to Ukrainian refugees?”, – investigators addressed such questions to the People’s Deputy.

These facts cause ambiguous reactions in society, especially against the background of the deputy’s recent statements about Ukrainian refugees. After all, on the one hand, the politician makes loud statements about the “non-Ukrainian” position of those who returned to the country, and on the other hand, his relatives are actively implementing their own projects abroad. This raises questions about the relevance of the politician’s words to his personal example and raises questions about the sincerity of his position.

At the same time, the situation draws attention to a broader discussion about Ukrainian refugees, their role in the restoration of the state and the right to self-determination. Are such generalizations fair when the relatives of government officials choose to live and do business outside of Ukraine? The answer to this question remains open, but the public reaction shows that such statements by politicians do not go unnoticed.

This situation once again demonstrates how important it is for politicians to be accountable for their words and actions, because the level of citizens’ trust in the authorities depends on this.
