Romanian Constitutional Court rejects appeal against results of first round of presidential elections

On December 2, the head of the Constitutional Court of Romania, Marian Enake, announced the decision to reject the appeal against the results of the first round of the presidential elections held on November 24. About this reported TV channel Digi24.
“The court established that the votes cast in the diaspora were not contested and as a result ruled that their recount is no longer necessary. Even if some discrepancies between the candidates were found, they do not appear to be the result of fraud capable of changing the result, they are considered only by possible significant errors in the counting of the submitted votes, which have nothing to do with determining the results.” – says the court statement.
The complaint was filed by Christian Terges, a candidate from the National Conservative Party of Romania. He accused the Central Election Commission of falsifying the votes in favor of Yelena Lasconi, a representative of the liberal party “Union for the Rescue of Romania”, who made it to the second round.
The Prime Minister of Romania Marcel Čolaku, commenting on the decision of the Constitutional Court, emphasized that “citizens themselves will determine the future of Romania on December 8“. At the same time, presidential candidate Elena Lasconi called on Romanians “to remain united to keep Russia out of our country“. She emphasized that she aspires to become a president who will unite all citizens.
