Rubio said that the final agreement between Ukraine and the Russian Federation should take into account sanctions

The final peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia should take into account the current sanctions, but there is currently no clear understanding when such an agreement can be signed. About this stated US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

“We will pursue peace as long as it takes. That doesn’t mean I can guarantee you that a deal will be done in a week or a month. I just can’t put a time frame because it’s not up to us. It’s up to the Russians and it’s up to the Ukrainians. It’s also up to our partners in Europe who have sanctions that I think should be taken into account in any final deal.” Rubio said.

He added that the signal for the preparation of a peace agreement will be the moment “when the time comes to sign,” if “there is resistance from one side or the other,” but “we are not at that stage yet.” In his opinion, now it is necessary to achieve greater technical clarity.

“I want to sit down and talk to our team when they come back from Saudi Arabia and get a better understanding of how those negotiations went. By the way, we’ve met with the Ukrainians twice more, so we want to get that perspective that we met with them on Sunday and again on Tuesday and with the Russians on Monday. So I need to hear from them a little bit more about how that went, and then we’ll present this to the president and we will decide on further steps”, – emphasized the state secretary.
