Russia and Iran plan to sign a strategic partnership agreement

Russia and Iran plan to sign an agreement on “comprehensive strategic partnership” during the official visit of Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian to Moscow. This was reported by the press service of the Kremlin.

“On January 17, Vladimir Putin will hold talks with the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Masoud Pezeshkian, who will arrive in Moscow on an official visit”, the message says.

According to the information, the discussion will concern the prospects of further strengthening of bilateral relations, in particular in the spheres of trade, investment, transport, logistics and humanitarian cooperation. Current issues of the regional and international agenda will also be raised.

Russia and Iran, which are under strict Western sanctions, have intensified cooperation in many areas in recent years. Iran provided Russia with thousands of Shahed drones, which were used to attack Ukrainian cities, as well as short-range ballistic missiles. With the assistance of Iran, Russia began production of its own version of the Shahed drones, called Geran-2.
