Russian troops are 2 km from Pokrovsk: Armed Forces of Ukraine

Russian troops are 2 km from the outskirts of Pokrovsk, Donetsk region, and are trying to surround the city, trying to cut off its logistics routes. This will be announced on January 2 in the telethon broadcast reported Viktor Tregubov, spokesman for the Khortytsia Operational Strategic Grouping of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

According to the spokesperson, there are currently no hostilities in Pokrovsk within the city limits. The enemy has not yet reached its borders, but is actively trying to surround the city through neighboring settlements.

“This is the hottest of all our areas. It has remained so for the past few weeks. Areas adjacent to it, such as Kurakhivskyi and Vremivskyi, also remain very hot. There are no urban battles in the city [Pokrovsk].

The Russians have not reached the border of the city, but they are trying to cover it through neighboring settlements and villages, to penetrate in one or another group, to accumulate and beat in the future in such a way as to bypass the city. Also, the active action of UAVs, the active action of everything that the Russians currently have, is also concentrated in the area of the city of Pokrovsk”Tregubov noted.

The enemy avoids a direct assault due to the significant fortification of the city.

“Pokrovsk is a large and sufficiently fortified city, therefore, of course, the enemy does not want to go to a frontal assault. Especially since he is already tied up in city battles in other directions, for example in Chasovoy Yar and Kurakhovo. That is why he is trying to bypass Pokrovsk and break the infrastructural chains”, Tregubov explained.
