The shortage of military aid forces Ukraine to spend billions on the purchase of weapons
Ukraine is forced to spend billions of dollars on the purchase of weapons and ammunition due to the lack of military aid from partners, said the Minister of Finance of Ukraine Serhiy Marchenko.
During the fifth ministerial round table of the World Bank and the IMF in Washington, Marchenko noted that due to the lack of weapons and ammunition promised by partners, the Government of Ukraine was forced to spend 4 billion US dollars on their purchase.
“This has created a significant hole in our budget“, the minister emphasized.
According to Marchenko, Ukraine acutely feels the lack of funding and weapons.
“4 billion US dollars – this is exactly the amount of money the Government spent on the purchase of weapons, in conditions when there was a lack of shells and weapons promised by partners. And this has negative consequences for the budget“, he noted.
The minister called on Ukraine’s partners to find ways to finance its needs, in particular, to finally transfer frozen Russian assets to Kyiv.
“Ukraine will not be able to defeat the aggressor if its partners do not help equalize its military resources with those of the Russian Federation“, Marchenko emphasized.
