Scandalous “Dr. Pi”: Lviv court acquitted Slyusarchuk after 8 years in prison for illegal medical practice and death of patients

A Lviv court acquitted Andriy Slyusarchuk, known as “Dr. Pi” and who in 2014 was sentenced to eight years in prison on charges of illegal medical practice that led to the deaths of patients, the use of fake diplomas, and large-scale fraud.
Shevchenkiv District Court of Lviv acquitted Slyusarchuk sentence, which defines:
“Andriy Slyusarchuk is to be found not guilty and acquitted due to the lack of elements of this criminal offense in the presented accusation of committing criminal offenses.”
It will be recalled that Slyusarchuk was accused of using forged diplomas on education and scientific titles, which allowed him to get a job at the Institute of Entrepreneurship and Prospective Technologies at the Lviv Polytechnic National University.
The prosecutor’s office claimed that Slyusarchuk did not have the appropriate license, but posed as a neurosurgeon and performed medical procedures that, according to the prosecution, caused the death of patients.
He was also accused of large-scale fraud, but the court decided that his actions did not constitute a crime and dismissed all charges against him.
In the 2000s, Andriy Slyusarchuk became famous thanks to his claims that he is a neurosurgeon and a doctor of medical sciences. In 2009, he claimed to have memorized 30 million digits of Pi, earning him the nickname “Dr. Pi.”
During the presidency of Viktor Yushchenko, a decree was issued on the creation of the Brain Institute, which was to be headed by Slyusarchuk as a “professor of neurosurgery”, and he was also awarded a presidential award in the amount of 150,000 hryvnias.
In 2011, journalists of the “Express” publication conducted an investigation that revealed that Slyusarchuk had deceived the public about his past and achievements. He claimed that he graduated from school at the age of nine and entered the Pirogov Moscow Medical University at the age of 12.
