Detectives of the Bureau of Economic Security (BES) in Lviv region exposed a group of people who, in cooperation with the heads of various charitable organisations, organised an illegal car import scheme. This allowed them to avoid paying customs duties and taxes in the amount of over UAH 15 million.

According to the investigation, the participants of the scheme imported vehicles as humanitarian aid for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Since the beginning of 2024, more than 500 cars have been delivered to Ukraine in this way, the BES press service reports.

Later, some of the cars were sold for cash on online ad platforms, Telegram channels, Instagram and Facebook. Another part of the vehicles was dismantled into spare parts for sale,’ the statement said.

To confirm the illegal activity, the BES detectives conducted three control purchases of cars from the criminals.

As part of the investigation, more than 50 searches were conducted at the residences of the scheme participants, and 30 cars, documents, cash and computer equipment were seized.

Currently, the pre-trial investigation is ongoing, and the full range of persons involved in the illegal activity is being established, ‘ the BES added.
