German Chancellor Olaf Scholz stated about the readiness to continue negotiations with the President of Russia Vladimir Putin. Despite the fact that the previous telephone conversation did not bring the expected results.
“It was unpleasant. Because he simply recited all his formulas”, – noted Scholz.
However, according to the German leader, such calls remain important. He emphasized that it is necessary to constantly remind the Kremlin that Germany’s support for Ukraine will not weaken. Scholz also called on Putin to withdraw Russian troops from the territory of Ukraine, which, in his opinion, is the only way to restore peace.
“And it has to be done and I will do it again. But you shouldn’t have any illusions about this.”, – he emphasized.
The telephone conversation in November was the first between Scholz and Putin in two years. It was aimed at conveying Germany’s position on the need to end the war in Ukraine and support it in the fight against aggression. Scholz emphasizes the importance of dialogue, even in difficult circumstances, as a key tool for influencing the situation.
