Scottish government officials banned from using instant messengers on work phones

The Scottish Government has decided to ban its staff from using messengers, including Meta’s WhatsApp, on work mobile devices. About this informs Sky News.
The move was the result of an external audit conducted to assess the government’s “openness and transparency.” Under the new rules, all “non-corporate” messaging apps will be removed from the work phones of Scottish government officials in spring 2025.
The ban will cover not only WhatsApp, but also other messengers. We are talking about Signal and Facebook Messenger, which are not intended for official communication.
This decision was part of the measures following the audit initiated in early 2024. Then the verification of the use of messengers among officials was started. The reason for the inspection was complaints about inappropriate and obscene messages that officials actively sent via WhatsApp during the COVID-19 pandemic.
