Shmyhal called “red lines” for Ukraine in the subsoil agreement with the United States

Ukraine has its own “red lines” regarding the terms of the agreement with the United States of America in the field of rare earth metals. In total, there are three such points, reported Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal during a press conference together with representatives of the European Commission.

“We certainly have our ‘red lines’. The first is compliance with the Constitution of Ukraine. The second is our focus on joining the European Union and the corresponding European obligations. In addition, we are guided by the norms of international law. And, of course, the agreement must be a partnership – with equal conditions for both parties.”Shmyhal noted.

The Prime Minister also noted that Ukraine is currently forming a technical delegation for negotiations and is cooperating with international legal companies.

“At the end of this week, we plan to send a delegation to the US with a lawyer. We expect technical negotiations to take place this weekend and next week. After that, we will see further progress. We are positive.”, he added.

It will be recalled that in February Ukraine and the USA began consultations regarding the signing of an agreement on rare earth metals. During this time, both sides worked to create conditions that would satisfy both Kyiv and Washington. The initial version of the document was not approved.

Recently, the USA handed Ukraine a new version of the agreement. In addition, the parties have already held a technical online meeting on this issue. President Volodymyr Zelenskyi announced that Ukraine will send a technical group to the United States to conduct negotiations with the American side on this issue.
