Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, 270,000 weapons have been lost and stolen

Since the beginning of the full-scale war in Ukraine, almost 271,000 weapons have been lost and stolen, which is 40% of the total number of reported cases of loss and theft. Since the beginning of this year alone, more than 78,000 weapons have been lost and stolen, informs Opendatabot.
The largest losses were recorded in Kyiv (10%), Zaporizhzhia region (11.8%) and Donetsk region (19.4%).

This year, the number of lost and stolen weapons has increased significantly. As of 2024, 78,217 weapons have already been lost or stolen — more than in the entire previous year and four times more than in the pre-war period.
Hunting rifles (27.9%), assault rifles (27.8%) and carbines (10.8%) are most often lost. Among specific models, the leader is the AK-74 assault rifle — 51,008 units (18.8%), the PM pistol (7.4%) and the SKS carbine (4.4%) were lost.

Overall, 88% of the lost guns in the registry disappeared as a result of loss, and only 12% as a result of theft.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, almost 226,000 applications for weapons permits have been submitted, of which more than 210,000 have been approved. At the same time, the number of applications per month increased by 1.8 times compared to the initial months after the launch of the Unified Weapons Register.
