South Korea elects new president

Early presidential elections were held in South Korea, in which the opposition candidate Lee Jae-myung won. About this informs Yonhap agency.
After processing 100% of the ballots, it was found that the candidate from the conservative “People’s Power Party” Kim Moon-soo received 41.5% of the votes, while Lee Jae-myung won 49.4%.
“I will fulfill my mission to create a world in which democracy is restored and the people are respected as sovereign in a democratic republic, living in cooperation with one another.” – said Lee Jae-myung during a speech in Seoul.
His main opponent, Kim Moon-soo, conceded defeat at a press conference at the headquarters of his political force, saying he “humbly accepts the people’s choice” and congratulating Lee on his victory.
Lee Jae-myung is a South Korean politician, representative of the Democratic Party. In the past, he held the positions of mayor of Seongnam and governor of Gyeonggi-do province, and was a candidate in the 2022 election, where he lost to his opponent.
He was born in 1964 into a family of modest means, obtained a law degree and began his career as a lawyer, specializing in cases of a social nature. In politics, he emphasizes reforming social policy and strengthening the role of the state in solving economic challenges. Lee advocates a more balanced foreign policy and supports the idea of resuming dialogue with North Korea.
